There are over fifteen stadiums with capacities in excess of 20,000 as well as pretty much the same number again that can cope with more than 10,000 fans entering them. The nature of the way football works in Ukraine means that teams have to declare their home stadium at the start of the season and the grounds are then graded according to what they are like. There are two UEFA Elite level stadiums in Ukraine; namely the aforementioned Olimpiysky National Sports Complex and the Donbass Arena. The National Sports Complex Olimpiyskiy, also known as Kiev Olympic Stadium, is the Ukrainian national stadium and home of FC Dynamo Kiev. The Olimpiyskiy Stadium as its shown in Ukraine stadiums map, then still called Republic Stadium MS Krushchov, was originally planned to open on 22 June 1941. It had been built during the five preceding years at the site of the previous Red Stadium L. Trotsky.
The Donbass Arena replaced Shakhtar old Shakhtyor Stadium, where it had played since 1936. The Donbass Arena is located in the central Voroshylovskyi district, tucked against the northern edge of the city centre as you can see in Ukraine stadiums map. The stadium is within walking distance of most city centre locations. On its northern side lies Leninskogo Komsomolo park. Metalist Stadium is located south-east of Kharkiv city centre, almost 3 kilometres from the edge of the centre. It furthermore lies about 5 kilometres from Kharkiv Freedom Square and about the same distance from Shevchenko park, which both lie more towards the north of the centre. The Arena Lviv lies in the far south of the city of Lviv, just outside the city limits at about 8 kilometres of Lviv city centre and about 10 kilometres from the central rail station (which lies south-west of the centre).
Stadion Chornomorets is located in Shevchenko Park in central Odessa on the eastern side of the city centre as its mentioned in Ukraine stadiums map. The walk from the Potemkin Stairs and the Opera House takes 15 to 20 minutes, that from the main railway station, which lies further south, a few minutes more. The Dnipro Arena is located in central Dnipropetrovsk. The stadium lies only a few blocks south of the principal Karla Marxa avenue. The stadium was initially considered as a playing venue for the 2012 European Championships, but in the end failed to meet the capacity requirement of 33,000 seats. Stadion Metalurh is located in central Kryvyi Rih. The walk from Kryvyi Rih railway station, which lies north of the centre, takes about 30 minutes. The stadium was traditionally the home of FC Kryvbas, however that club went bankrupt in 2013.
